You must be at least 13 years old to get started.
Complete the required U.S. Soccer Referee Course, which includes:
An online course
One in-person training session

The course fee is $50, covering the entire calendar year (both spring and fall seasons). Fee set by US Soccer and subject to change.
You’ll be reimbursed the full course cost at the end of your first season with FCYSA.
To continue refereeing each year, you’ll complete an annual recertification online — also reimbursed as long as you're active with FCYSA.

All referees are assigned to games by the official U.S. Soccer Referee Assignor for FCYSA.

New referees typically start with younger age groups where rules are simpler, allowing time to learn and grow.
As you gain experience, your performance will be assessed, and your assignments will reflect your progress.
Most referees work games with players younger than themselves.
Referees are paid at the end of each season. Payment varies by age group and whether you served as Center Referee or Assistant Referee (AR).
Course fees are reimbursed once you begin officiating games
